Westwater Farms Redux

August 13, 2012
by John Weisheit

Harley Dome Class II Injection Facility

Update: This facility was transfered to a company called Armada Water, which declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May of 2017.

About a year ago Westwater Farms fouled their original injection well with precipitates and the capacity of the well was significantly reduced. Hence, the company has decided to drill another well on their property to restore their original hoped for capacity. The original well will be used for injection of fracking fluids as necessary and it will also be used to monitor the movement of injected fluids, in case the fluids mght migrate toward the Colorado River.

In the last year, WWF has also experienced financial problems concerning the payment of property taxes and for operation fees to Grand County.

The applicant for the new injection well is New Water Financial, LLC from Fort Collins, CO.

New Water Financial is also applying for a water discharge permit from the Department of Water Quality, and for the purpose of irrigating crops with fracking fluids treated by reverse osmosis.

The public meeting for the discharge permit is scheduled for Monday, September 10, 2012, 6:00 p.m., at the Grand Center on 182 North 500 West.
